What is a welding positioner?

A welding positioner is a machine used to position and rotate workpieces during the welding process. Through controlled rotation, the welder gains optimal access to the weld joint, improving both quality and working environment.

The machine is often used for welding pipes, cylinders, pressure vessels and other rotating or irregular structures where correct positioning is crucial to the result.

How does a welding positioner work?

The workpiece is placed on a rotary platform or roller stand and fixed for stable operation. The operator sets the rotation speed, direction and possible tilt angles depending on welding requirements and part design.

When the machine is activated, the workpiece is rotated smoothly and in a controlled manner around its axis. This allows welding to be carried out in the optimum position, often known as the PA or PB position, resulting in better penetration and more consistent welding results.

After welding is completed, the rotation is stopped and the workpiece can be checked or moved further in the process.

Advantages of welding positioner

Improved welding quality - Smooth rotation provides a stable arc and consistent weld bead.

Increased efficiency - Less need for manual repositioning saves time.

Improving the working environment - The operator can work in an ergonomically favourable position.

High precision - Controlled speed and stable attachment minimise variations in welding results.

Solutions for different applications

Welding positioner are used in engineering, pressure vessel manufacturing, pipe production and steel construction. Whether you're working with smaller components or larger, heavy-duty structures, solutions are available with customised load capacity and rotation control.

Contact us at Erlandsson & Hjorth and we will help you find a welding positioner that optimises your welding process and increases both quality and productivity.
